We are almost one month in to our 3rd quarter now.  As FCAT approaches, we will be working on more strategies for successful test taking and reading skills that are tested.  Students will be working with classmates to answer FCAT questions and support their answers with details from the passages.

We are nearing the end of our 2nd quarter.  Many students have done quite well this first half of the year and I look forward to the activities and action of the rest of the year.  I anticipate lots of fun and a lot of hard work in the coming nine weeks.  Students have learned the test-taking strategy and seen it modeled.  We are working on oral review of the skills this week and students will take a controlled practice test next week over the strategy.  Students will be learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. this week and have a short homework assignment over the weekend about him.  Next week, we will read and discuss a story about 3 boys who were caught in an avalanche and how they survived.  There will be a homework assignment related to this story as well.  We will resume vocabulary instruction and homework next week.

Happy New Year!  I hope that you all had an enjoyable break.  We are back at school and back to work.  We began this week reviewing the Unit 2 Vocabulary to get ready for our Unit tests next week.  Next week, we will continue to review with some learning games and other activities before taking our tests Thursday and Friday.  We will also be finishing learning about a test-taking strategy designed to increase achievement at all levels and in all subjects by an average of 10% when used correctly.

I apologize that I have been absent from this site for so long.  There are no excuses for this other than family comes first and I've had a lot going on on the homefront.  I will do better about this in the future.  That being said, please feel free to contact me at any time should you ever need to.  Also, Student Assignment Reports were sent home this week to be signed.  This showed what work is missing and can be made up over the break if the report is returned with parent signature.  Students were also given a goodie bag this week.

I hope everyone had a happy and safe Labor Day!  This week we will continue working on vocabulary and begin to increase our reading skills.  I look forward to seeing you on Thursday at Open House and meeting those of you who I didn't get to meet at Orientation.

What a great first week!  I feel truly honored to be working with all of you this year.  I can already tell how wonderful this year is going to be.  I have so many positive children who really enjoy reading and seem ready to soak up knowledge.  As always, feel free to contact me at any time with any questions or concerns or information that you feel I should know.

This website will be used to keep you updated about current Homework and due dates as well as our weekly Vocabulary and other things going on in our classroom and around school.  This is my first time using a website with my classroom and I'm unfamiliar with this server so I may run into some issues outside of my control but I will do my best to keep this up to date and to post as much information as needed.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at my e-mail address, april.delrio@polk-fl.net, or leave a message for me at the school, (863) 965-5484.  Please understand that I may not be able to respond immediately but that I will reply to all communications as soon as possible.

Thank you for your support as we enter a new year together.  I look forward to meeting each of you and working together for a wonderful  and exciting year.
